A Letter From the Editor

Dear Readers,

Since the dawn of information technology, criminals, nation states, and researchers of all stripes have tried to exploit it. Although a vibrant industry of cybersecurity professionals has emerged over the last few decades, the challenges of securing our digital infrastructure have grown just as fast.

Cybersecurity is more important now than ever before. Households, businesses, and countries are becoming more reliant on technology. Devices ranging from ventilators to cars to toasters are being connected to the internet, often with too little thought given to keeping people and their data safe. The threat landscape is evolving, too. Cyberattacks, disinformation campaigns, and other digital intrusions have become weapons-of-choice for nation states — these tools offer a cheap and surreptitious way to silence political opponents and influence rival nations. Criminal groups have become organized and flush with cash thanks to ransomware, business email compromise scams, and countless other types of attacks. As organizations across industries struggle to make sense of this new reality, cybersecurity executives and practitioners need help navigating the developments that matter most to them. 

That’s why we’re launching The Record, a cybersecurity news publication that explores the untold stories in this rapidly changing field.

As we grow, our goal is to be a source for cybersecurity news and analysis that will help defenders on the front line succeed. Many of those stories will be sourced from the Recorded Future platform — our access to Recorded Future’s security intelligence technology and expert researchers will help our readers stay a step ahead of criminals, nation states, and other threat actors that make the digital world unsafe. But we won’t stop there. The Record will also cover court cases, reports, and news from other cybersecurity companies, government agencies, and academic institutions. If it’s a cybersecurity story that matters, we want to be your source for in-depth analysis.
